Jack Jennings Gets Best Of Liam Murphy In Group 3 Showdown; CBA Wins 30th Group Title

Jack Jennings led Mendham to the Group 3 boys team title and in the process beat Liam Murphy of Allentown, 15:19 to 15:21 on a cold windy day at Holmdel Park for the NJSIAA Groups Championships. 

Murphy came into the meet undefeated through six races, including the Manhattan Invitational. 

Jennings and Murphy were both 30 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.

Mendham put four in the top 14 on the way to 48 points and a Group title. 

Middletown South, led by freshman Reese Fahys' individual victory in 18:49, won the girls Group 3 crown.

Chloe Gonzalez of North Hunterdon, after finishing second in the 2017 and 2018 Group 4 finals, got the gold and ran the fastest time of the day, 18:01. North Hunterdon also upset Northeast No. 4 Ridgewood 41-76 to take the team title. North Henderson also posted the top team time over Ridgewood and Northeast No. 5 Middletown South.

In Group 2, the Haddonfield Memorial boys went 2-3-6-11-17 on the way to 29 points and dominant victory. Senior Austin Gabay of Chinnaminson won it in 15:48. Emma McGill of Voorhees won the girls race and Holmdel scored 74 points to beat Haddonfield Memorial (86).

Christian Brothers Academy senior Shaw Powell repeated as Non Public A champion in 16:00 to lead the Northeast No. 2 and US#12 Colts to their 30th state title.

Red Bank Catholic edged Union Catholic 46-48 for the girls team title. Pingry's Nicole Vanasse won the race by 17 seconds in 18:57.
